The Small Courage Challenge
Courage rarely looks dramatic. Most of the time it looks like sending the text you have been drafting for three days. Or saying “I don’t agree” in a meeting where everyone else stayed quiet. Reinvention is not one bold leap. It is a string of small moments where you choose the harder, truer option instead of the easy, safe one.
Think of a moment this past week when you shrank yourself. Maybe you agreed with something you did not believe. Maybe you stayed silent to avoid a reaction. Maybe you said “it’s fine” when it was not fine.
That moment is your map. It points directly to the courage you are avoiding.
Write down one specific action you have been putting off because it feels uncomfortable, not because it is unsafe. Then answer this: what is the smallest version of that action you could take in the next 48 hours?
Pick one of these, based on what came up in your journaling:
Say the honest sentence. Tell one person this week what you actually think, in a moment where you would normally soften it or stay quiet.
Send the message. The one you have rewritten five times. Send the plain version.
Ask for what you want. A raise, a boundary, a different plan for Saturday. State it directly, without over-explaining.
Sit with the discomfort. After you act, notice the urge to apologise or take it back. Do not. Let the discomfort pass on its own.
Do it once. Notice how your body feels before, during, and after. That feeling is the muscle you are building.
You do not need a complete transformation right now. You need one moment where you chose yourself over comfort. That is how reinvention actually works. Small, repeated, unglamorous choices.
